This wiki has been created by the Vancouver Public Library in partnership with Library and Archives Canada. It reflects the Mandate of Library and Archives Canada and the Mission, Vision and Values of the Vancouver Public Library. It is governed by the applicable Policies and Procedures of the Vancouver Public Library.
The guidelines below apply to the Chinese-Canadian Genealogy: Profiles from a Community wiki. Wiki users who breach these guidelines may be denied editing access.

Behaviour
Wiki contributors should maintain a civil, respectful tone. This applies to content edits and additions and to interactions with other wiki contributors and administrators. The following behaviours are unacceptable:
- Editing wars. These occur, for example, when two or more individuals disagree about content and engage in an ongoing and unproductive series of edits and counter-edits.
- Vandalism. Vandalism occurs when additions, deletions or changes are made with the intention of compromising the wiki.
Content and Style
- Wiki content should be consistent with the scope and purpose of the wiki, as described in the Project Overview.
- Wiki content should be written from a neutral point of view.
- Wiki content should be verifiable, and should include citations to source materials.
- Wiki profiles should only be created for individuals recorded in the Chinese Immigration List. In its current phase, the wiki does not include separate profiles for parents, children and other relatives unless those individuals have their own entries in the main Chinese Immigration List.
Copyright
Material which infringes copyright must not be added. For more information on copyright law in Canada, see the Canadian Intellectual Property’s Office’s Guide to Copyrights.
Lesley Ellen Harris's book Canadian Copyright Law: The Indispensable Guide for Publishers, 3rd. ed. (McGraw-Hill Ryerson, 2001) may also be useful.
Many primary sources of Canadian genealogical information are in the public domain. Check this list if you are uncertain.
Privacy
- The people from the Chinese Immigration List who are profiled in this wiki were all born prior to 1901 and are in virtually all cases deceased. It is, however, possible that some are recently deceased or that their wiki profiles include information about individuals (for example, children and grandchildren) who are still living. In the case of living persons, information added to the wiki must be limited to data obtained from sources that are readily accessible to the general public (for example, an obituary or newspaper article listing the names of children). The source of the information should be cited.
- If a person is deceased, changes to their wiki profile should be limited to data obtained from sources that are readily accessible to the general public unless the record was created over 100 years ago or the individual has been deceased for more than 20 years.
- If it is uncertain whether or not a person is deceased, or if they are known to have deceased but the date of death is unknown, changes to their wiki profile should be limited to data obtained from sources that are readily accessible to the general public unless the person was born more than 100 years ago.
